Bird Flu Cases in Colorado Raise Concerns
Five Workers Infected at Egg Farm
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced on Sunday that five workers at an egg farm have tested positive for bird flu, doubling the number of U.S. human cases this year. With nearly 18 million chickens at risk of being culled, concerns over the spread of the virus are mounting.
Weld County Outbreak
The outbreak in Weld County, Colorado, is the first at a commercial facility in the state since February and only the second since December 2022. The virus was detected at an egg-laying operation, prompting health officials to order the culling of all the chickens on the farm.
