Gayle Manchin Hospitalized After Car Accident

Injured in Alabama

Released from Hospital Thursday

Gayle Conelly Manchin, wife of Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, was released from the hospital Thursday after she was injured in a car accident in Alabama, Manchin's office said in a statement.

The accident happened Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 65 near Clanton, Alabama, according to Alabama State Troopers. Manchin was driving a 2022 GMC Yukon when she was rear-ended by a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Scott Smith, 40, of Alabaster, Alabama. The impact of the crash pushed the Yukon into the back of a tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic.

Manchin was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, where she was treated for her injuries. She was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Smith was not injured in the accident.

The accident is under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
