Boston Red Sox Lose Outfielder Jarren Duran for Remainder of 2023 Season
Injury Ends Breakout Season for Promising Young Player
Duran Tears Tendon in Toe Scaling Outfield Wall
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran's 2023 season has come to an abrupt end after suffering a torn tendon in his toe. The injury occurred on August 20th during the Red Sox's game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
Duran was attempting to scale the outfield wall when he landed awkwardly and felt immediate pain. He was subsequently removed from the game and underwent an MRI, which revealed the severity of the injury. The tendon tear will require surgery, and Duran is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
The loss of Duran is a significant blow to the Red Sox, who are currently battling to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot. Duran had been one of the team's most consistent and productive players this season, hitting .253 with 8 home runs and 38 RBIs in 95 games played.
Duran's injury is also a personal setback for the young outfielder, who had been enjoying a breakout season. He was named the American League Rookie of the Month for April and was on pace to surpass his totals from his rookie campaign in 2022.
The Red Sox will now have to find a way to replace Duran's production in the lineup. Manager Alex Cora said that he plans to use a combination of players to fill Duran's spot, including Alex Verdugo, Tommy Pham, and Franchy Cordero.
